Twin Falls Drag Show to benefit CSI’s Spectrum Club

A drag show in Twin Falls is always a big event. In a town that doesn’t have a gay bar, you can bet whenever the queens and kings take the stage it’s going to be before a large crowd.

What makes tomorrow night’s show truly historic, though, is that it marks the first ever official drag show to be held on the College of Southern Idaho campus. It’s also an “all ages” event, which means it’ll be “safe  for the whole family”…whatever your definition of those words are.

The show, hosted by CSI’s newly formed Spectrum club, will feature performers from Twin Falls, the Imperial Sovereign Gem Court of Idaho and from elsewhere around the region. IROC 102.1’s Dr. Nick Redbone will emcee the event.

According to an event facebook page, there will also be an amateur drag contest. So if  you’ve dreamed of getting your “face” on and dazzling the crowd with your best lip syncing skills, this is your chance.

Proceeds from the show will go to help send Spectrum’s leadership to the Power of One conference in Boise.

According to a press release,”Spectrum provides a safe gathering for people that are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning, as well as their straight allies.” It replaces CSI’s Gay-Straight Alliance club from years past.

There will be a bit of seriousness during the glitz and glamour. A silent auction during the show, proceeds from which will be given to  the Twin Falls School District Foundation “to be used to establish or support anti-bullying programs.”

Event coordinator Christina McFarling,  tells KMVT-TV, “we wanted to put on a big event that Twin Falls isn’t really used to having all the time, but they’ve had before. And then we wanted to give back to the community so we figured that something that really relates to our club is we have a lot of problems with bullies.”

Spectrum’s vice president, Kaitlin Garofano agrees. She tells the Times-News “We want the community to come in with an open mind and be open to the experience. We want this to benefit not just CSI but the entire community.”

When: Saturday night, 6:00pm until 9:00pm

Where: In the College of Southern Idaho Student Union building.

Who: The event is open to all ages

Cost: $12.00 at the door. (The first 125 CSI students get in for free!)

(To be part of the amateur performance contest, pay a $15 entry fee and provide your own costume and music.)
