Breaking: Idaho Add the Words Supporters Refusing to Leave Capital Mall

After an hour long rally at the State Capital building in Boise this evening, supporters of a bill that would help end discrimination and harassment in Idaho say they aren’t leaving the Capital steps.

For the past six years, state lawmakers have unjustly refused to hear testimony on the bill that would add the words,”sexual orientation and gender identity” to Idaho’s Human Rights Act.

Those supporters refusing to leave the Capital grounds this evening, myself included, say they do so in order to show lawmakers that we are tired of playing politics with human rights.

As I pointed out yesterday, there is an urgent need to pass the legislation in Idaho. Instead of listening to their constituents, which includes thousands of voices from across the state, however, lawmakers have chosen to continue to lie about, manipulate and ignore the bill’s purpose and intent.

Add the Words, Idaho organizer Lisa Perry told the crowd, “We cannot wait until next year. Our friends, family and neighbors are suffering now.”

“We will stay until our lawmakers come to work in the morning and see that we are serious about this bill!”
