Pride Foundation Tops List of Organizations Serving LGBTQ Community

Pride Foundation, which serves five northwestern states, including Idaho, has been named at the top of the list when it comes to public and community foundations serving the LGBTQ community in the U.S.

According to a report by Funders for LGBTQ Issues, Pride Foundation awarded more than $22.5 million between 1970 and 2010.

The report, released last month,”documents the amount and character of the first four decades of U.S. institutional support to LGBTQ communities through community, public, family and private foundations.”

According to the Puget Sound Business Journal, “the organization  ranked No. 7 in the more general category of top 10 grantmakers for the same period, although it should be noted that the category of “anonymous funders” – including many anonymous donors lumped together – ranked first with $90 million in spending.”

The Seattle-based organization ranked ninth for its support for LGBT youth over the past 40 years.

The foundation got its first game changing contribution in 2008, when Microsoft founding employee Scott Weiland left $65 million to the organization.
