A Rick Perry Campaign Roundup: The Brokeback Edition

It’s official, Rick Perry is now more of a meme then a serious contender for the White House.  First, he implodes  his campaign by wearing the same jacket as Ennis Del Mar from Brokeback Mountain. Then he earns the distinction of having the most disliked video of all time on the Internets, tallying up a whopping 640,140 dislikes thus far.

Not even Jesus himself could resist getting in on the  “parody Rick Perry’s “Strong Ad” craze..

Poor Rick, all he was trying to do was reach his anti-gay gun, anti-Obama, “prayer in schools” crowd. How could something so right go so wrong? Well for one thing it’s not 1988 anymore.  Former president of Chicago Theological Seminary, Susan Brooks Thistlethwaite pointed out  in the Washington post over the weekend that, “Millennials support gay marriage, take race and gender equality as givens, are tolerant of religious and family diversity, have an open and positive attitude toward immigration, and generally display little interest in fighting over the divisive social issues of the past. Almost two-thirds agree that religious faith should focus more on promoting tolerance, social justice, and peace in society, and less on opposing abortion or gay rights.”

In other words,  Perry underestimated the power of the internet in hands of millions of 20-year-old skinny jean wearing lady Gaga fans.

Then we have the outing of Rick Perry pollster Tony Fabrizio. Oh, to be a self loathing Republican again. Those were the days. OK, not really.  Not even GOProud co-founder Jimmy LaSalvia could stand the thought of someone who’s gay working harder against the LGBTQIA community then he does.

So what does he do?

LaSalvia outs Fabrizo in a not-to-kind tweet,”I’ve just about had it with faggots who line their pockets with checks from anti-gay homophobes while throwing the rest of us under the bus.”

We’ll ignore the fact that this is the same group of mostly white over privileged gay guys that consider Ann Coulter an ally. We’ll just have to wonder what GOproud is going to look like without the backing of conservative media dude Andrew Breitbart.   He resigned from the board following the outing.

As the New Rights Movement reports,”In announcing his resignation from the GOProud board, Andrew Breitbart stated, “I have a zero tolerance attitude toward the intentional infliction of vocational and family harm by divulging the details of an individual’s sexual orientation as a weapon of political destruction.”

“Ironically, “Breitbart — whom New York Magazine refers to as a “yellow journalist” – had no difficulty publishing misleading information that led to the firing of Shirley Sherrod, a federal official, and also the flagrantly false video that led to the destruction of ACORN,” writes New Rights Movement reporter David Badash.

Our friend Michael Rogers, who helped out Larry Craig and others put it best when he tweeted,”Thanks @andrewbreitbart you made @GoProud outing Fabrizio national a national story. Good work! I just KNEW you supported outing!” over the weekend.

Finally,  we are really starting to question Rick’s  personal hot line with the almighty. While he might, in fact, be the chosen New Apostolic Reformation candidate, we would hope that such someone with in such close contact with the G-D would  know that A:  Solyndra isn’t a country,  it was a solar energy company and B: At the very least be able to name the nine U.S. Supreme court justices.

Oh wait, our bad. Poltico reports that Perry told Fox News over the weekend, “The American people “aren’t looking for a robot that can spit out the name of every Supreme Court justice or someone that’s going to be perfect in every way. They’re looking for somebody who’s got values,”

Either that Rick or they’re simply looking for someone who can provide some comedy relief in what has become one of the longest GOP presidential candidate selection in recent history.

In that case, Rick you win…you win.
