On The Agenda: Hate Crimes, Slut Walk and Sticky Notes

It’s been a busy week for the Idaho LGBTQIA community.  Tuesday was not only “National Coming Out Day” which was celebrated in communities across the state, it also marked the launch of the “Add The Words” sticky note campaign! By know the “Add The Words” campaign is a movemant ot get Idaho to ask your state lawmakers to add the words, “sexual orientation and gender identity” to the Human Right’s Act. Some have expressed their wish that they lived in Boise or said they will be out-of-town during the legislative session. It’s ok. You can and hopefully will still participate. Organizers have made sending your lawmakers your sticky notes easier this year by setting up a website that allows you to do it online. You can also upload them to your facebook page, choose the public positing option and tag the picture with “Add The Words,Idaho” and it will load on the “Add The Words” facebook page as well. Help make sure EVERY Idahoan gets treated fairly and get this thing passed!

After weeks of hearing about hate crimes occurring in the Boise area, Thursday saw the subject reach critical mass as victims started speaking about their experiences, both to The Idaho Statesman and to the Idaho Agenda. The Idaho Statesman piece was picked up by the Associated Press and everyone one around the state seemed to be talking about the problem. The only problem is Boise police say there aren’t any LGBTQIA specific hate crimes to officially report. If you or someone you know becomes the victim of a hate crime, report it! Police can not release your name or anything else to the public and it’s important that not only are those targeting our community brought to justice, but to also gain a better picture of just how wide-spread the problem is.  If authorities don’t belive you or if you feel they aren’t taking you seriously you can file a complaint with the regional FBI office:
